Unique Entity Number (UEN)

Currently, establishments have to use different identification numbers when interacting with different public sector agencies. The more commonly used identifiers include the ACRA number issued by the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) to registered companies, businesses and limited liability partnerships, the ROS number issued by Registry of Societies (ROS) to registered societies.

Having a Unique Entity Number (UEN) for establishments in Singapore, similar to the NRIC number for individuals, will reduce the number of identifiers that establishments have to use. A UEN will also make interactions with the Government simpler, faster and easier.

The UEN system went live from 1 January 2009 and UEN has been adopted by all government agencies with effect from 1 July 2009.

  • drive the implementation of m-services and the deployment of central infrastructure for m-services,
  • ensure a coordinated approach by government agencies to accelerate the implementation of mobile services (m-services), and
  • ensure cost effectiveness in the deployment of m-services in the government.
